When Desires Lead Men

Once there was a god who lived in a mountain and it was believed he could grant all the wishes of men so far as you could utter the right words. A man who lived in a mud house usually frequented the place to crack stones and shaped it into tablets used for tombs for that was his profession and has not encountered this mountain god. One day, he visited a very rich man who always lived in his house. He was surprised at what he saw in the rich man’s house for his eyes have never seen such wealth and went home thinking more than he should. When he visited the mountain to cut his stone, he whispered “if only I were a rich man, I will be happy and do all I want to and will ever do.” Then the mountain whispered to him “so shall it be.” When he got home he realised his mud house was gone and replaced with the exact things he saw at the rich man’s house. Soon he was enjoying life and all that the riches brought with it. After some time he got used to the monotony of it and heard the sound of the prince passing by. He was being carried with all the servants leading him and people bowing to him. Then the man whispered again “if only I were a prince I will do what I want and will ever do” and the mountain whispered “so shall it be.” A prince he became and he started to enjoy it and all that it brought with it. But the sun was getting hotter and hotter and he couldn’t bare the heat. Again he said “if only I were a sun I will do what I want and will ever do” and the mountain whispered “so shall it be.” He became a sun and shone more than he could ever do. The fields became dry and so did the farms. Soon bush fires where happening until a cloud hid his sight form men. Being angry he said “how can a sun so mighty be absorbed by just a pillar of cloud? If only I were a pillar of cloud I will do what I want and will ever do” and the mountain whispered “so shall it be.” He became a cloud shielding the sun from the earth and poured down rain which revived the farms and the land till it turned into flood hiding everything from sight, but the only thing that remained standing was that mountain. Then he whispered “if only I were a mountain I will do what I want and will ever do” and the mountain whispered “so shall it be.” A mountain he became until it was all dry and an old man came to his feet to break a piece from him and use him for a tablet on a tomb. He screamed at the pain and whispered “oh if only I were a man I will do what I want and will ever do” and the mountain whispered “so shall it be.” And a man he became and returned to his former trade of cracking stones and learnt to wish to be no one but him for a stone cracker he was and that he remained all his remaining life.
My name is Kotey and may we be content with who we are and strive to be the best at it and not envy others for with hard work and perseverance we shall overcome.
